Our programs cover a broad range of issues. All are organized around 10 issue areas that relate to our mission. Each is designed to serve as an innovative solution to an issue of particular importance to island communities.
The Islands Society supports local communities in need by partnering with local nonprofits to create awareness for local issues, raise donations to support local causes, amplify the communications of local nonprofits, and connecting our community with local volunteering opportunities.
The Islands Society is committed to working with local communities around the world to help solve the conservation challenges threatening island ecosystems. Specifcially, we work to protect and restore habitats in and around islands in order to save endangered species.
The Islands Society is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting pluralism and democratic values within island communities. Our democracy-themed projects are designed to ensure that islanders living in democratic states have their voices heard on the issues that impact their local communities.
The Islands Society collaborates with a range of mission-aligned partner organizations to raise money and solicit volunteers for disasters affecting island communities. We also provide a platform for thought leaders on disaster management to share their ideas about how we can better prepare for future disasters.
The Islands Society is committed to promoting awareness of the issues critical to islanders in classrooms around the world. We are also working to ensure that the unique cultures of island communities are respected and preserved through targeted educational programs. These include our projects related to endangered languages.
The Islands Society is dedicated to promoting equality for ethnic islanders everywhere. Specifically, we work to ensure that there is equal access and equal representation for members of all ethnic groups at the local, national, and international levels. We also work to improve the health and well-being of girls and women in island communities.
The Islands Society works to inspire and empower doctors, nurses, researchers, and policymakers to become thought leaders on the public health issues affecting island communities. Specifically, we focus on access to healthcare, public-private partnerships, scientific exchanges, and transparency in healthcare.
The Islands Society champions creativity and innovation in island communities. We partner with individuals and organizations that are recognized thought leaders around the world. We then jointly work to inspire and empower islanders to introduce new ideas and products that address the needs of their local communities.
The Islands Society is dedicated to raising awareness for traditional and non-traditional security threats that affect islanders around the world. Primarilly, we focus on individuals and communities as the referent of security. That said, our work covers all of the sectors of security, including political, military, economic, societal and environmental.
The Islands Society works with partners across the world to build awareness for the negative impact of climate change on islanders. We are trying to strengthen local voices by providing platforms to share their ideas and concerns with a global audience. We are also partnering with other nonprofits to help promote the sustainable use of islands.
