Matahi Drollet to Represent Tahiti at the Eddie Aikau Invitational

October 30, 2026

« I will do my best to represent Tahiti », Matahi Drollet wrote on his social networks this Friday, announcing his invitation to the 2026/2027 edition of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational.

This legendary competition takes place at Waimea Bay, in Hawaii, in tribute to Eddie Aikau, a lifeguard and surfer who lost his life in 1978 while saving others at sea.

The event will run from December 6 to March 4 next year because the waves must measure at least 12 meters for its start to be given. A threshold that had not been reached last year, preventing the event from taking place.

Besides Matahi Drollet, top names in the sport have been invited, such as John John Florence, Kai Lenny, Seth Moniz, or Bruce Irons.
