The gendarmerie conducted a raid last week, together with the municipal police of Faa’a, at a private residence in the commune implicated in drug trafficking. More than 300 cannabis plants were being cultivated there, and investigators also recovered 1.4 kilograms of cannabis leaves and nearly 400 grams of dried cannabis, as well as 13 grams of methamphetamine (ice) and about 500,000 francs in cash. The person involved in the case was convicted, after a hearing under the CRPC (comparution sur reconnaissance préalable de culpabilité), to 18 months of imprisonment with a detention order.
The search was carried out as part of a flagrante delicto drug trafficking investigation conducted by the Windward Islands gendarmerie company, its Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (PSIG), and the Surveillance and Intervention Detachment (DSI), in collaboration with the Faa’a municipal police. The residence of the person searched yielded 302 cannabis plants, 1.4 kg of cannabis leaves, 382 grams of cannabis herb, as well as 13 grams of methamphetamine and 470,500 francs in cash.
“The author of the facts was arrested and then placed in police custody before being brought before the public prosecutor on October 29, as stated by the prosecutor’s office in a press release. Following a CRPC, he was sentenced to a term of 18 months’ imprisonment with a custodial order.”
