Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Becomes Professor of Empathetic Leadership

“Her research will focus on empathetic leadership, social cohesion, and civic trust,” the university said in a statement.

Jacinda Ardern, 46, had become Prime Minister of New Zealand in 2017, at the age of 37.

She quickly gained international fame for her approachable and direct style of governance, her handling of the Covid-19 pandemic deemed successful, and her response to the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings.

Her popularity, however, waned at home toward the end of her second term due to worsening economic conditions, and she ultimately left politics in 2023.

Since then, she has taught at Harvard University in the United States, before moving to Sydney earlier this year.
